I'm new here, a 44-year-old married mother of one, a 5-year-old boy. I work full time as a science editor and write kids' books in my "spare" time--I've done the former for 14 years and the latter for 20. I have found the combination, with maintaining a house, completely overwhelming. In addition, I launched a website in the last year and am updating it, and beginning to worry about my 80-year-old mom, who is in good health but who is entering a phase in which I think we need to plan for what-ifs. I bring to the mix a long history of struggling with perfectionism, overcompensation, and anxiety, all a legacy of being an adult child of an alcoholic. This is my second day on Ritalin. I am wanting some balance in my life and looking forward to comraderie and fellowship from you all.

Hi, I too am new here. I was diagnosed with AD/HD and Anxiety dissorder at age 48. (I'm now a "young 53") it all makes sense to me now, I believe my father and 1 bother 2 nephews and a great-nephew also have it ,only 2 have been diagnosed. Beings I'm the only "chick" in the clan with it, I have a hard time finding someone to understand what I've been though all these years. Thank God for this site.! (hope I can find it again!, I'm also a new putor learner.) I take retilan 3 x's a day and Xanax 4 times a day. also meds for my Fibromialgia, My main need is for help with my communication skills with my hubby of 32 years. He's a great man, but his "ears are wearing out I'm afraid. Anyone else with this problem.? It seems to be causing me to shut off, pull away, and to retreat, where I can't bother anyone. We have 4 married children with kids, only 3 can see I have it. Thanks for the ear. (not-so- Cheerybear) P.S. I've got and read all the books.! Even tried counceling, but he just wanted to add another diagnosis to my list.
