Hi! I'm 57 and in North Carolina, too. Thank you for inviting me in!
Gosh, how I remember all the well intentioned teachers who wrote on my report cards "She's so sweet, but would do better if she'd just apply herself". I also remember the first time I read Dr Hallowell's book, Driven to Distraction, years ago and the flood of tears that followed as I realized there wouldn't have been anything I could have done to please everyone, especially my parents--as hard as I had tried. My high school chemistry teacher told me I should just find a nice man and get married. (At the time my father was head of the school board so they probably just passed me.) Once "officially" diagnosed I went the Ritalin route for a short while...no real help... and returned to my "coping ways". I have been on an anti-depressant (Zoloft) since the start of my hot-flash era (15 years? ugh.) and find it seems to help the hot-flashes and, if nothing else, makes me less likely to get frustrated with myself over the the fact that I go from room to room to room with things as I clean...or burn my dinners! <grin> I also happen to have an under active thyroid (treated) that sometimes enhances the focus issue...especially in winter. (Yep, moderate SAD.)
(Get to the point.) I am in a new, fast pace position and concerned about keeping track of everything, so would love to know if there are favored treatments for this focus and follow-through issue.
Thanks for listening.
Judy
