I have posted messages on the other website and after reading through found out that we had a new board so I would like to take this time to formally introduce myself.
My name is Trina , I'm 35 with 4 kids (well 6 if you count my husband -the oldest kid and his nephew who live with us) My 15 year old was diagnosed with it several years ago and I never did the research to discover that I may have it to (he lives with his dad) it didn't come to me until my 6 year old was tested with it and I displayed the same symptoms (except he has ADHD and puts the hyper part to the test)
I was told about the possiblity of my having ADD then but not formally. (meaning I'm scheduled to be tested so they can "officially" call me ADD.. and getting me on meds.)
I recently started going to therapy with a psychologist who is having me go to a psychiatrist to be tested for either BiPolar Disorder or ADD but I fit more and more into the ADD disorder from just my readings and testing then the BiPolar disorder...
Since finding out and doing the research I have found it such a relief to be able to come somewhere and discuss matters with people that understand and don't think I'm making excuses for not cleaning the house, or forgetting to do this or that or thinking me lazy or stupid. And now I'm finally able to realize that I'm not stupid, or lazy or crazy or any of that stuff that people so plainly named me throughout my life.. I recently finished college and received an A.S. degree in Computer Science but please save the scientific questions because I can't tell you a thing that I learned its all a blur to me...Since discovering this now, I have decided to go back to school, but this time for something I may enjoy. I'm going now to get a B.A. in Religion and Philisophy. I think it may be a way for me to get out and help people to learn more about this disorder and treat people with it like they should be treated...its not just for children or men anymore..we as women get it the hardest because we don't get the time out to find what the real issues are those are saved on our families. Well, I'll stop here. I have really enjoyed coming to the board and speaking with you all and getting to see the others out there and know that hey I'm going to make it through this..its only a test. I have also emailed the Dr. Phil show (don't know if it will help or if he will ever get it) requesting they do a show on woman with ADD so we can really see that we are not in this alone. Many blessings to all of you and hope to hear from you all soon!!
