 ADD Diets?
« Thread Started on Aug 7, 2004, 7:45am »

I have heard mention of there being some foods that help and some that hurt the symptoms of ADD. I have never actually seen this diet though. Is there really such a thing?

There are several different diets, the most popular being the Feingold diet. The important thing is to stay away from preservatives, additives, food coloring...anything that isn't there naturally. I've also heard that low carb/high protien is good. It's also important to make sure you're getting fiber. If your colon isn't healthy, it can cause symptoms to worsen, even cause similar symptoms in non-ADD people. Just FYI. I've been on Strattera, which doesn't really help at all. I've found a supplement that REALLY helps. It's manufactured by Irwin Naturals, Inc. in L.A. (1-800-262-2616), it's called Advanced Ginza-Plus. It has several "adaptogen" herbs in it: Maca, Schisandra, Rhodiola rosea, Cordyceps sinensis, Panax Ginseng, Ginger, Piper longum extract and Black Pepper extract.

We too have been curious about what specific dietary changes to make, but of course I've been too distracted to do much research to find out lol...

I've always assumed the obvious, sugar, additives, food colorings, highly processed foods, etc, all the stuff that is bad for us anyway, would make ADD worse. But again, haven't done the research yet.

but I did just find this page, and thought it might be of interest to you...

let me know what you think :)

So...has anyone had any success with this product---all I can now think of is Veta-Vita-Veggimen (sp?) from the old Lucy show...and I was just at this site. I once bought some bottles of something similar that was "chelated" and supposed to be great, but couldn't remember to drink it as it didn't taste that great. I hear drinking grape juice has similar anti-oxidizing effects as wine (don't really enjoy wine). Anybody have other ideas?
