Anyone ever had trouble balancing a checkbook. I can honestly say, with one exception, I have never balanced my checkbook. I did try one of those computer programs once. It lasted about a week. I have the bank transfer money to my savings every pay check. Otherwise, I keep track in my head how much money I have. Don't ask me how I do it, I can't tell you. But I haven't bounced a check. Just curious if anyone else does their book keeping like I do. I know it would drive non-ADD people crazy.

I Have also never balanced a checkbook. I have always had high/low income. Yes i have bounced checks. I am trying to get a handle on my money and I am working with someone. This is very frustrating but I am determined to get this under control. She told me to list evrythign I spend then I forget to carry the pad to write the things down.

One day I might work on this issue. I have too many other issues that are causing me problems right now that I have to work on.
I was just curious if I was the only ADD person who had this problem. Once again I don't feel alone anymore. Thanks.

I found that the best way to keep your money matters straight is to use a combination of different things. First, I use the online check/banking service everyday to see what has cleared. Second, I have automatic bill paying online for most of my bills so that I never forget to pay any of them. Third, I use the computer the program (I prefer is Quicken) to write down any expense. Fourth, I use only ATM card not checks that way I have a paper record and promptly enter the amount into the computer. Fifth, I have Automatic Paycheck deposit so I never forget to put my check into the bank.

I have a little bit different problem than what everyone has mentioned so far. I attempt to balance my checkbook but for some reason it just never comes out right at the end of the month. I always write everything in so that's not the problem. I don't know if I'm calculating things wrong or what. I can never find the errrors!

its funny but we rarely run out of money and I've usely got a handle on our situation. Quite unlike a dozen other components of my life. characteristics of this - no chequebook yes to direct deposits and monthly debits from the account not materialistic / very happy with small house and small morgage nazi about husbands spending tight as a fish's bottom when it comes to luxuries
the strange thing is when we are a bit low on dollars then I'm far more inclined to spend unreasonably
