Good question. I hope someone here knows. I was considering dumping my current insurance for a better insurance during open enrollment next spring. However, I would have to switch doctors, hospitals, etc. I like my doc (psychiatrist). I had to bare my soul to him to get the ADD diagnosis. If I have to do that all over again, I think I would stay with who I have.

Changing docs is a pain....Everything kind of has to fall in place for things to work out. The doc has to listen (I mean REALLY listen) and care...you have to be able to get along with his/her personality...etc. So I say, if you find one that works...don't change. But if you have to...yeah...it will probably take a while and might possibly require seeing many different doctors before you will actually find one you trust and can work with. You might think about writing to the insurance company and pleading your case....sometimes they make exceptions. But for that to work you would have to be willing to appeal several times if they turn you down. It's a winnable battle....but you have to decide if it's a worthwhile battle, especially since it could take a long time to actually make progress.
